Treatment

My group and I have decided to make a teaser trailer as our main task in the coursework. We will also produce a film magazine cover and an advertising poster.

The working title of our film will be ‘Alice’s Wish’ – my group and I thought this was appropriate as the film is all about a girl called Alice and she only wants one thing before she dies, this one thing is her wish to make her best friend have a better life.

To make our film we will be using DV – this is a format for recording and playing back digital video. Another format we will use is iMovie, with this my group and I will edit/make our teaser trailer and also had voice overs and text.

To make our magazine cover and poster my group and I will be using Photoshop. Photoshop is a graphics editing programme, with this we will edit our pictures to make them perfect and look professional.

From my research, I have found out that most teaser trailers are 30 seconds to 1 minute long. Therefore, our teaser will last, at the most, 1 minute. This will be able to be done as we will have enough time to film and edit.

Our intended audience for the film is women aged 17 and over. We found this to be our audience through the questionnaires, we also think that our type of film would suit the female audience rather than male.

The synopsis to our teaser trailer is as follows:- Alice O'Rourke was twenty two years old and terminally ill with cancer. She was sent home to die as she refused all treatment and would not let anybody help her. Three years ago, whilst in hospital, she met a girl, aged 17, who also had cancer. Her name was Aimee Jackson. Unfortunately, Aimee was sent to a care home at the age of four as her parents couldn't cope with looking after her and she was never able to track down her parents again. When Aimee turned 18, after all treatment, she was given the all clear and was released out of hospital. Aimee and Alice stayed very close friends, being with each other every day. Alice came from a wealthy background, whilst Aimee had very little. Alice saved her money in secret to give to Aimee after she had passed away to help her find her parents where ever they were in the world and felt she wanted Aimee to fulfil her dreams as she knew she wouldn't be able to. On the 24th May Alice passed away leaving her money to Aimee in a letter, but before the letter was found, Alice's sister Beth took all of Alice's belongings, including her house and money. When Aimee is given the letter, she does what she knows Alice would have wanted her to do and fights for it back.

The genre for our teaser trailer is ‘Drama’. We will use a voice over and non-diagetic music to make our teaser trailer effective, as well as text to show what the title of the film is.
Our teaser trailer will be relevant and interest the intended audience as we will include many techniques that we found were important in the audiences’ eyes. E.g. voice overs.

The teaser trailer should be easy to make in terms of access, contacts and resources. This is because we will be filming most scenes in each others house, the characters in the trailer are Alice (part of team), Aimee (friend) and me, so it will be easy to get into contact and organise filming. All of these points should make this a workable project.

My group and I don’t have a budget for this teaser trailer. We think that we won’t need to buy anything as we already have all of the props. We have however, decided to all put something towards the tape, which is £2.

The deadline for planning is Friday 26th February; the deadline for the teaser trailer is Friday 26th March. The ancillary tasks (magazine front cover and poster) deadline is Friday 9th April. The evaluation should be completed by the 30th April. My group and I feel that we can achieve all of these deadlines as we have made schedules and will stick to them.
